** RACE REPORT** by Trevor Kuhrt
LARKING GOWEN CITY OF NORWICH HALF MARATHON
It’s been a busy week so apologies for the delay!
It’s also been a week of recovery! WHAT A RACE! If the heat didn’t get you the hayfever did. And if the hayfever didn’t get you the guy with the sprinkler did! 😆
This half marathon would have been a tough ask for many a runner so consider yourself extremely fortunate if you managed to get round in a semi-decent time. 👏🏼
So STRAVA tells me it was 19° yet ask anyone who ran and they’ll tell you it felt like the magma chamber of Mount Vesuvius, and there was not a cloud in the sky either! There are skin blisters to prove it! 🌞🔥🙈
The 500 waves worked really well and as far as I am aware the race naturally spread out as it progressed. There were no surprises in this course, I’m sure we were all very aware of ‘The Travelator’ which awaited us towards the end!
There were some awesome times! 2 new names to watch out for going forward in John Hudson and Alicia Lacey. I reckon they may be a bit handy one day 👀😆.
There were plenty more Road Runners who were making the age-grading headlines and you’ll find them listed below.👏🏼
John Hudson 5th Male overall 01:17:09
Alicia Lacey 3rd Female overall 01:23:21
Trevor Kuhrt 6th Male 40+ 01:26:42
Alastair Leckie 7th Male 40+ 01:27:45
Nicola Hill 3rd Female 45+ 01:42:47
Anne Flanagan 4th Female 40+ 01:44:37
Guy Shearwood 3rd Male 60+ 01:50:58
Deborah English 7th Female 40+ 01:51:14
Frances Cooke 10th Female 40+ 01:54:16
Martin Howard 5th Male 65+ 01:58:25
Emily Jordan 8th Female 50+ 02:08:52
Jane Yardy 2nd Female 60+ 01:55:59.
Well done to everyone who got out there, gave it their all and topped up their sunburn. The only downside is that we still can’t hang around for long and socialise but hopefully that day is not too far away.
See you all at the next race.
The organisers web site records the event like this
'The Blickling Half Marathon is an event not to be missed! Starting and finishing in the historic market town of Aylsham, this certified UK Athletics road half marathon, takes in the stunning country roads surround Aylsham and Blickling' The weather certainly did its part in making it an event not to be missed.
20 plus members took the opportunity to get back to 'normal' racing' although this race was organised under current COVID-19 regulations.
The following age category results were achieved.
Trevor Kurt 2nd ( 01:28:00.5)
Jonathan Cordle 1st ( 01:28:49.0)
David Crotch 2nd ( 01:33:00.2)
Martin Howard 2nd (01:46:38.1)
Nicola Norfolk 2nd (01:42:22.6)
Congratulations to all
Three Norwich Road runners took the opportunity to travel to the Boston Mayflower 400 Marathon. 2020 marks 400 years since the Mayflower sailed to America. Sadly the race scheduled for th.e anniversary year fell foul of Covid-19 but the organisers laid on a very well organised event for this year. The route starts and ends in Boston and is very flat which makes it a good race to earn PB's. However the hot weather and fairly strong breeze may have affected some results.
Alastair Leckie was the first NRR home in a time of 03:35:58, Shaun Copeland completed the race in 03:43:10, while David Field finished in 04:55:12
A good time was had by all
NRR had a small showing at the Peterborough Marathon.
A very well done to Andy Palmer with his well and truly smashed PB for the distance of 3:30.36 - bettering his previous time by over 13 minutes..!
Shaun Paul Cleworth was also another finisher with another impressive marathon time of 3:24.28 - he just keeps churning out the marathons..!
